Vision of the Department of Dentistry

The vision of the Department of Dentistry is to become one of the distinguished departments with an excellent reputation in medical education, scientific research, and healthcare services locally, regionally, and internationally, with a focus on excellence, integrity, justice, and transparency in education and scientific research. The department is committed to the individual’s right to receive the best healthcare and to protect privacy, understand and respect community diversity, and emphasize continuous self-assessment of performance while respecting scientific, academic, ethical, and legal principles. The department also aims to create a supportive environment for the excellence and creativity of students, professors, and healthcare workers throughout their lives, enhance health and restore it within the national healthcare system, and work collaboratively in a team to meet patient needs with high-quality, responsible, and ethical clinical performance. Additionally, the department seeks to demonstrate professionalism in dealing with patients, colleagues, and other medical professions, adhere to medical ethics, critically evaluate medical practices, and advance postgraduate studies and research, self-development, and lifelong learning.

Objectives of the Department of Dentistry

  1. To prepare highly skilled dental practitioners who are aware of the community’s oral health needs and contribute to providing both preventive and therapeutic oral and dental care to all citizens.
  2. To prepare dental professionals to pursue specialized postgraduate studies and conduct scientific research that aligns with the needs of the country and the economic and social development plans of Iraq and the Arab world.
  3. To develop undergraduate education in the Department of Dentistry to meet community health needs, keep pace with advancements, and adopt scientific and practical technologies.
  4. To prepare specialists in various fields of oral and dental medicine and equip them with a high level of knowledge in their respective fields.
  5. To foster and develop scientific research in practical and clinical oral and dental sciences, and to nurture the spirit of teamwork and collaborative scientific research among graduates, so they can be part of the medical team contributing to public health efforts.
  6. To foster a spirit of teamwork in medical practice, strengthen cooperation with all health sectors in the country.
  7. To develop research, teaching methods, and educational foundations, including creating university textbooks, translating foreign sources, particularly recent ones, and standardizing Arabic medical terminology.
  8. To organize rehabilitation, training, and continuous education programs for dental school graduates working in various specialties to improve services in both the public and private sectors and link the university with the needs of the community.
  9. To establish cultural ties with relevant medical colleges, scientific bodies in the country, and dental colleges in the Arab world and abroad, in order to develop scientific research and postgraduate studies.

Mission of the Department

The mission of the Department of Dentistry is to prepare highly competent dental practitioners who are aware of the community’s oral health needs and contribute to providing integrated oral and dental healthcare, including both preventive and therapeutic aspects, for all citizens. We aim to prepare dental professionals capable of pursuing specialized postgraduate studies and participating in scientific research that aligns with the needs of Iraq and the Arab world, as well as economic and social development plans. We also seek to develop university education in the department to meet the community’s needs while relying on modern scientific and practical techniques, and to equip specialists in various fields of dentistry with a high level of knowledge in their respective areas. We place great emphasis on fostering and developing scientific research and promoting teamwork and scientific collaboration among graduates, enabling them to be part of the medical team contributing to public health efforts. Furthermore, we aim to enhance collaboration with various health sectors and establish cultural ties with scientific bodies and other colleges to advance scientific research and postgraduate studies. We are committed to developing research methods, teaching approaches, and educational foundations, including creating university textbooks, translating foreign sources, and standardizing Arabic medical terminology. Additionally, we focus on organizing rehabilitation, training, and continuous education programs for dental school graduates working in various specialties, with the goal of improving healthcare services and linking the university with the needs of the community.
