Vision of the Department of Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing Technologies

To be a creative, pioneering, and effective department among regional and global colleges and departments in the field of Cybersecurity Engineering Technologies. The department aims to contribute to the development and service of the local community by providing it with highly skilled professionals and offering scientific and technical consultancy in cybersecurity.

Additionally, it seeks to ensure quality in the IT infrastructure across various government sectors, design and develop scalable, secure, and robust security systems, work on data center networks and systems, and assist organizations in understanding advanced cyber threats while developing strategies to protect their networks.

Objectives of the Department of Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing Technologies

  1. Prepare highly qualified engineers with a strong academic foundation in cybersecurity engineering technologies, combining technical creativity, scientific expertise, and high-quality implementation in the fields of cybersecurity and cloud computing.
  2. Train engineers to be responsible for building, designing, and securing IT systems in institutions, preventing data breaches, protecting against cyber threats such as hackers and viruses, and overseeing the infrastructure of various network types and security systems. They will also troubleshoot network infrastructure issues and provide guidance and solutions for various security challenges.
  3. Develop engineering professionals with the technical skills to manage cloud computing operations, use vulnerability assessment tools to identify security flaws, monitor failures, evaluate security patches, mitigate vulnerabilities, and assist in security documentation and disaster recovery solutions.
  4. Equip engineers with the ability to analyze data logs, conduct risk assessments, and investigate security breaches to determine compromised system components and potential threats. Additionally, they will perform penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities and ensure the safety of network systems.
  5. Continuously develop the cybersecurity curriculum by collaborating with regional and international academic institutions to align with national, Iraqi, and local cybersecurity programs, addressing market demands and providing a modern educational environment with the latest teaching tools.
  6. Enhance the capabilities of faculty members, technical staff, and administrators through participation in seminars, conferences, and workshops organized by the department or other cybersecurity-related departments in local universities.
  7. Implement effective strategies to develop the department’s capabilities by conducting research and studies in cybersecurity engineering, ensuring compliance with quality standards set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Graduates will be equipped with diverse knowledge, enabling them to excel in their careers, adapt to various work environments, and keep pace with the rapid advancements in their field while adhering to professional ethics.

Department Mission

The department aims to train engineers in the fields of Cybersecurity Engineering Technologies and Cloud Computing, equipping them with technical, organizational, and administrative expertise to effectively protect computers, networks, data, and software—particularly in medical applications, including forensic medicine—from cyber threats.

Additionally, the department strives to enhance students’ scientific capabilities, fostering a strong connection between theoretical foundations and practical applications that align with internationally recognized standards in the field. Graduates will be prepared to meet the demands of the public, private, and mixed-sector job markets, while also contributing to building and strengthening cooperative relationships with engineering and technology institutions both locally and internationally.
